Organic Monitor has launched the first-ever awards dedicated to sustainability in the beauty industry – The Sustainable Beauty Awards.

Nominations are being accepted now, and winners will be announced October 21, 2013.

Amarjit Sahota, founder and director of Organic Monitor, said, “We have launched the awards to put the spotlight on cosmetic companies making a significant difference in terms of sustainability within the beauty industry, as well as to inspire others to take the ‘green’ route.”

Sahota plans to host the awards annually in Paris, to continually recognize the cosmetic and ingredients companies that are pushing ‘green’ boundaries.

There are five awards categories:

  • The Sustainable Packaging award is for a cosmetic package with a low environmental footprint.
  • The Sustainable Ingredient award is for a material that makes a difference in terms of ecological and/or social impact.
  • The Green Formulations award is for brands with products that have a high level of natural and organic ingredients in their formulations.
  • The Sustainability Pioneer award is for a pioneer that is a leader in a certain area.
  • The Sustainability Leadership award is for an overall leader in sustainability.
